Quote of the Month
“Music to me is like breathing. I don't get
tired of breathing,
I don't get tired of music."
– Ray Charles
Think of your favorite song. Do you know why it’s your favorite song? When someone asks you what your favorite song is, you most likely will reply, “I just love (favorite song) by…”.
There’s a different feeling about that song versus the songs you just “like”. You probably play that song over and over, and you don’t know why it makes you feel so good.
William Shakespeare said, “If
music be the food of love, play on”. What do you think he meant? Well, if
food is essential for your body to make you healthy, then music is like food
for your mind to make you happy!
Music can be like anything else you have a favorite of, like your favorite ice
cream or favorite color. All these things make you happy and bring you joy, and
that’s why you love them so much!
February is well known for the holiday that celebrates love…Valentine’s day! If you take notice most songs are about love, either being in love or the heartbreak of love.
Your favorite song may not even mention love! It may have a really good beat to dance to or have funny lyrics and that’s okay too because it brings you joy.
Whatever reason you love the song, it’s the music that speaks to your heart. Having music lessons gives you a connection to music that no one else can claim. Later, when your teacher shows you how to write your own songs, your love and appreciation of music will last a lifetime!
Student of the Month
Meital Lindenberg
I've known the Lindenberg family for over 10 years and I've had the honor of teaching Meital and her sister Eliana.
I look forward to Meital's lessons. There's always something new that she's interested in learning. Shes very creative and always find a way of getting through lessons that are difficult.
She's played in the school bands, she's played independent coffee houses through School. As well as participating in our recitals.
She's the type of student that I know will continue playing music with others throughout her entire lifetime.
Chris Peary, Meital's Guitar Teacher
Congratulations, Meital! Enjoy your beautifully framed
Student of the Month Certificate!
Interview with Meital Lindenberg
What instruments do you play? Guitar, ukulele, bass guitar, and drums.
How long have you taken lessons? 10 Years.
Who is your favorite musical artist? I have a lot, I'd have to go through my playlist. But at the
moment I am studying contemporary artists of the 70s and 80s such as
Glen Campbell and George Michaels. As well as standard jazz songs.
What are your other hobbies besides
music? I
love sports and participate in basketball track softball and soccer.
Favorite food? Beef ribs are my favorite!
What is the coolest thing you’ve learned in your lessons the past 3 months? Learning the modes of each major key.
Advice for other students? Don't
be afraid to ask questions when you're confused. Because I do that always and
sometimes too much.

Feature Story
In honor of Black History Month, we chose
Chuck Berry for our feature story! Chuck who? Well, if you’ve never heard of
him, you’re probably too young to know
who he is, but I bet you’ve heard some of his songs!
Chuck Berry was an
American singer, songwriter, musician, and one of the pioneers of rock-and-roll
music! He created new guitar solos
and had
an unique showmanship and style that would be a major influence on rock
music for decades to come!
He wrote
hit songs like, “Johnny B. Goode”, “Maybellene”, “Rock and Roll Music”, “No Particular
Place to Go”,
“Nadine”, “Roll Over
Beethoven”
and “School Days”!
Chuck
was a huge influence on the Beatles when they started out in Liverpool,
England. Paul McCartney recalled that he was like a magician with music and
that his lyrics were more like stories that were turned into poems.
His hit song, “Johnny B. Goode” was even featured in the movie, Back to the Future! Chuck’s songs are still fun to dance and sing to. If you’re not sure if you’ve heard of any of his songs, ask your parents, grandparents and your teacher to share their favorite Chuck Berry songs with you!

Music & Practice Tips
The
shortest and one of the coldest
months of the year!
“How can you possibly expect me to practice when my hands are so cold?”
February is shortest of all the months in the calendar (28 days), but every four years it features an extra day (February 29th) - known as the leap year.
But don’t fret, there are some good things to look forward to in February…
The days get longer!
In the beginning of February, sunset is around 5:15pm, but at the end of the month, sunset is around 5:45pm!
Because it’s a shorter month, it will fly by before you know it!
Music Tips:
That’s right! There’s no excuse for not practicing due to cold weather because practicing keeps your hands warm!
Rewards of practicing....
