Inverted Chords

In Video 33.2 you will see the first of two inverted chords.

  • An inverted chord is basically when you play the notes in a different order. In measure 6 you have a Dm chord progressing to a G major chord.

The notes of a G major chord, from left to right, are G - B - D. To invert the G chord, take the D from the top of the chord and move it to the bottom of the chord.

  • Therefore, the notes of an inverted G major chord, from left to right, are D - G - B.

L.H. Chords

In Video 33.3 you will see the Bb major chord, which is the second of two inverted chords.

Learn Any Song You Want

The practice technique that you have been using in Lesson's 31 to 33 is not that difficult to learn -- but in my 27 years of teaching piano, I have discovered that it's not for everyone.

  • When I say that, I don't mean that students can't do it; I'm just saying that it's been my experience that most students are in such a hurry to learn new songs, that most of them won't take the time to learn a song one measure at a time.

  • And I get it. This method can be a little tedious at times.

However, if you are willing to give it an honest effort, you will be able to learn any song that you have ever wanted to play, regardless of how difficult it may seem.
