L.H. Chords

TAKE NOTE
: In Video's 35.4 and 35.5, I use the bass clef in the left hand for the first measure. I then switch to the treble clef for the next four chords.

  • I then switch back to the bass clef for the next 2 chords, and then back to the treble clef for the last chord.

1-5-1 Magic

The 1-5-1 Broken Chord was absolutely magical when I first learned it -- and it's still magical to this day, which is about 40 years later.

  • The 1-5-1 is magical because it's the one musical tool that has a million-and-one uses.

Okay, I may be exaggerating a little, but for the piano player who likes to create their own piano arrangements, whether improvised or written, the 1-5-1 broken chord will be your most used musical tool.

  • Of course, you may not be ready to start creating your own piano arrangements yet, but nevertheless, you will see the 1-5-1 broken chord quite a bit in pop and rock piano arrangements.

I will introduce the 1-5-1 in Bonus Lesson 37 and show you how to build this amazing broken chord for all 12 major and 12 minor chords.
